I was intending to buy the 105 f/2.8G AF-S VR Micro but that one is $900. I can't be sure. Anyway, the seller wanted $300 for it so I bought it. I guess the 105/2.8D used to sell for about $720 or so. The lens cap is a cheap copy from Korea. The HS-7 lens hood did not come with the lens.

#Nikon 105mm f2.8 af filter size full#
Full range includes 1:1 of course. The filter size is 52 mm and it came with a really good B&W "F-Pro 010 UV Haze 1x" filter. It has a focus limiting switch that limits focus to about 2:1 macro, or about 200 mm to infinity. It’s about as big around as my previous Olympus 50 m f/2 macro but almost twice as long (no big sruprise, it's 100 mm). It didn’t appear to creep while I was looking at it, although that is hard to test without a lot of time. There's a narrow DOF scale for f/32 only. The seller said it may suffer from focus creep when the lens is held straight down or up. It has a focus scale and goes though about 180 degrees of rotation to focus from 0.314 m (1 foot) to infinity. It has the aperture ring, with f-stops from 2.8 to 32. If you want to focus manually you have to switch it to M. It has two focus modes, M and A, not A/M and M. I read reviews about both lenses on SLR Gear Review before buying it. The reviews say the older version is just as sharp or sharper than the new VR. It’s the older version, not the 105 f/2.8G AF-S VR Micro. I just bought the Nikon 105 mm f/2.8D AF Micro Nikkor lens in good condition. Use the lens hood, relax, enjoy, and keep shooting. Should you elect to use a protective filter, pick a muliti-coated clear protector such as the Nikon NC, Hoya HD, B+W #007 MRC, or Marumi Super-DHG. The debate over whether the protection one provides is worth the costs is never-ending do some reading and make up your own mind. Protective filters provide different protection than lens hoods or insurance. There is no need for any additional UV filtration with this lens. The HS-7 is the standard hood, but if you want to experiment, you can try printing a petal-style hood here: The HB-38 hood is a bayonet hood designed specifically for the 105mm VR. Would I see a difference if I got a HB-38 lens hood instead? I just got a Nikkor 105mmD lens and was wondering two things.
